Easy Beef and Broccoli

A tasty and easy weeknight dinner that is a well-known Asian American favorite. Better than takeout and ready from start to finish in about 20 minutes!

Ingredients
  

  • 12 oz Pappardelle noodles
  • 3 c broccoli florets, frozen or fresh
  • 1 T olive oil
  • 1 lb flank steak, cut against the grain
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 T minced garlic
  • 1/3 c packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 c soy sauce, low sodium
  • 2 T hoisin sauce
  • 1 T sesame oil
  • 2 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp fish sauce
  • 1 T cornstarch

Instructions
 

  • 1. Cook the noodles according to package directions in the large pot of boiling water. Add the broccoli in the last few minutes of cooking. Drain the noodles with the broccoli.
  • 2. While the pasta cooks, add olive oil to a large skillet. Season steak with salt and pepper. Cook until browned. Discard drippings. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant.
  • 3. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, hoisin, brown sugar, sesame oil, ginger, red pepper flakes and cornstarch.
  • 4. Add the noodles and broccoli to the skillet with steak. Pour the sauce mixture over the top and use tongs to toss noodles. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to thicken the sauce up. Serve warm. Enjoy!

*SIDENOTE* Want to kick it up a bit? Add a little Thai curry paste and/or sriracha!
