Homemade apple hand pies with a buttery crust, crisp apples and warm fall flavors. Although they would be great year round, they’re the perfect Autumn treat.
I looooooove Fall baking. All of the spices, ingredients and warm smells… don’t even get me started.
The best part of this recipe is that it only includes a handful of ingredients. I used caramel candies for this, but you can easily use a salted caramel sauce or the caramel melting candies from the store (found in the baking aisle). When I first created this wrecipe, I didn’t even know they were a thing?
This gorgeous molds were bought from Williams Sonoma. Link included below. Very easy to use and absolutely beautiful and festive.
Salted Caramel Apple Hand Pies
Homemade apple hand pies with a buttery crust, crisp apples and warm fall flavors. Although they would be great year round, they're the perfect Autumn treat.
Ingredients
- 2 cups apples, peeled and cubed
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1 tbsp AP flour
- 2 tsp lemon juice, freshly squeezed
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp ginger
- 1/4 tsp all spice
- 1/4 tsp cardamom
- 10 soft caramel candies, roughly chopped
- Premade pie crust
- coarse sea salt, for sprinkling
- egg wash (1 large egg + 1 tsp water)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375° and line baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Toss together the apples, sugars, flour, lemon juice and spices.
- Dust work surface. Roll pie crust dough out and use a cutter to make an even number of shapes.
- Top half of the shapes with about 2 tbsp of apple mixture, placing chopped caramel pieces on top. Leave a decent space between mixture and the edges (at least 1/2-3/4 inch). Place the other empty halves on top and seal using a fork to crimp along the edges.
- Move pies onto the baking sheet. Whisk together egg and tsp of water in small bowl. Brush tops of pies with the egg wash and sprinkle sea salt over. Cut a couple of vents to the tops of each pie with a paring knife. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
