Savory French Toast
Savory twist on a classic breakfast staple! I made it EVEN better by adding fresh herbs, farm fresh eggs and topping it with savory meats. A delicious breakfast or brunch dish!
- 5 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tsp thyme
- 1 tsp oregano
- 1 tbsp minced garlic
- 1 tsp coriander
- salt and pepper
- 6 slices french bread
- 1 stick butter (divided)
- eggs cooked to your liking
- bacon, ham, proscuitto or sausage (also cooked)
- microgreens and additional fresh herbs such as thyme for topping
Combine the first 7 ingredients in a shallow baking dish and whisk together.
Place a large skillet over medium heat and melt half of the stick of butter. Press 3 slices of bread in the shallow baking dish to soak. Flip and soak each side for 1 minute.
Transfer the soaked slices to the hot skillet and sear 3-4 minutes each side until browned. Remove and repeat with the remaining slices. You may need to melt the additional 4 tbsp butter in the hot skillet prior to searing the remaining slices.
Top each serving with egg, sea salt, cracked black pepper, greens and meats. Enjoy!
